Lord-Stark family papers, 1876-1932 and n.d. (bulk 1910-1908).

Primarily letters written or received by members of the Lord and Stark families (50 items, 1876-1913). The majority were written by Lilly Lord to her future mother-in-law, Edith M. Stark, and when Lilly married George Willard Stark, from Lilly and George Stark to Edith (1901-1908). Topics include family health and news, Lilly's opinions on sewing, life in general, and the household goods she purchases. Many of the letters detail Lilly's Christian beliefs. Other letters were written by George's brothers and sisters and are addressed to him or to their mother. Another group of letters (1911-1913), from R.H. Crane of the Springfield Home for Aged Men, respond to the trials and tribulations Lilly Stark faced while caring of an older gentleman in her home. The collection also includes letters received by members of the Lord family in the 1870s and 1880s (one sends the measurements of the deceased so the family can have a casket made and another discusses a Civil War pension); financial materials from both the Lord and Stark families, including receipts, loans, and bank statements (ca. 30 items, 1886-1932); and a large number of copied poems and prose (ca. 120 items, n.d.). Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture. (01-086).
